Split Level Courtyard House
This project came about from a keen golfer that had always admired the courtyard house typology.

The site was an unusual shape, that narrowed along the golf course boundary. With an easement to the south, and a significant fall along the length of the block, we adopted a split level in the planning and oriented the pool facing the easement.

With privacy of critical importance to the client, the house is deliberately blanked itself off the the street, but opened itself immediately with a high glazed entry foyer that had a short passage into the spacious open plan interior.

The kitchen, meals and formal/informal living areas were positioned around a central courtyard to maximise internal lighting, cross ventilation and views.

By retaining a low scale adjacent to the courtyard, solar access to the pool was maintained. The split level lead to a increase in ceiling height along the golf course frontage, that was screened with perforated external venetians that retained golf course views whilst enabling push button control of eastern sunlight and privacy.

The lighting and external blinds were automated using HPM I-Control.
